Protect Yourself from Fraud

Your safety is our priority. We want to inform you that we've received reports of fraudulent activity targeting Metergy customers and job seekers. Knowing the types of scams and their signs can help keep your personal and financial information from falling into the wrong hands.

What to Look Out For

Door to Door Scams

Individuals have been posing as Metergy representatives and visiting buildings to offer residents enrolment in electricity-offset, carbon-credit, or environmental incentive programs.

Please note these individuals are not affiliated with Metergy. We will never collect personal or financial information at your door and only visit your unit if an appointment has been scheduled in advance.

Recruitment Fraud

Scammers are taking advantage of job seekers by impersonating recruiters affiliated with Metergy. There are several variations of job scams targeting potential candidates.

By staying aware and informed, we can all play a part in protecting each other from potential scams and reducing the risk of door‑to‑door fraud.

  • Fake Job Postings: False representatives are creating and uploading fake job postings to reputable websites including LinkedIn and Indeed. Watch out for postings with poor spelling and grammar, inconsistent formatting, vague responsibilities, and unrealistic compensation expectations. If you’re unsure whether an opportunity is legitimate, check out our careers page for active listings.
  • Unsolicited Messages: Job seekers have reported suspicious emails and texts offering immediate employment opportunities with Metergy. These are typically followed by requests for personal or banking information. While our recruitment process may change at times to ensure we find the right fit for the role, all candidates must go through a several-step process that includes a virtual and in-person interview. We will never ask for your Social Insurance Number or banking details until the recruitment process is complete, and an offer letter has been formally signed. Please note that we may partner with third-party agencies to fill certain positions.
  • Payment Scams: Be cautious of scams in which you are asked to pay an upfront fee in exchange for a job, training, or equipment. Metergy will never request payments from candidates at any point during the recruitment and onboarding process.

Collections Fraud

This type of fraud involves threats of electricity disconnection if a payment is not made immediately and may be carried out via phone, email, or in-person. If you receive such a threat, do not engage. While we may contact customers to discuss collections activity, prior notice will always be sent.
